August 31 - ELMIRA, ON — For the second time this summer a talented group of two-year-old trotting colts will gather at Elmira Raceway when the Waterloo County oval showcases six Grassroots divisions on Monday night.

Freshman fillies star in Labour Day spectacular at Clinton
August 28 - CLINTON, ON — Clinton Raceway kicks off its Ontario Sires Stakes season this Sunday with five divisions of Grassroots wild card action for the two-year-old trotting fillies. The fillies will highlight the track’s popular Labour Day festivities, which also include the 21st annual Driver’s Challenge, prize draws and a children’s carnival.

August 26 - REXDALE, ON — Ontario’s talented two-year-old trotting colts gave Woodbine Racetrack fans full value for their dollar on Monday night with an outstanding finish to the $130,000 Gold Series Final. Less than a length separated the top four colts at the wire, with a scant nose deciding the winner.

Miracle horse puts win streak on the line Monday
August 23 - REXDALE, ON — When Meadowview Sunny steps in behind the gate at Woodbine Racetrack on Monday night, owner Charles Reid will not be worrying about whether or not the gelding can earn a sixth straight win or add a third Gold Final trophy to his collection. After a hair raising trip to the University of Guelph last spring, where veterinarians predicted the young trotter would never race again, Reid is just grateful to be in the game.

Local filly makes Gold Final debut Wednesday

August 22 - HANOVER, ON — Father and son duo Ross and Trevor Henry partnered for two wins and a runner-up placing in two-year-old trotting filly action at Hanover Raceway on Wednesday night. The duo posed in the winner’s circle after Races 7 and 10 with Taffeta Seelster and Zorgwijk Dutchess and logged the narrow miss with Odee Angelina in the first of six Grassroots divisions on the midweek program.

Sophomore pacing fillies return to Dresden Sunday
August 21 - DRESDEN, ON — Ontario’s top three-year-old pacing fillies are preparing this week for a return engagement at Dresden Raceway. The historic half-mile oval hosted the sophomore distaffers in their season opening Grassroots event on May 20 and on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 25, they will compete in the second of three Trillium Series events on their 2002 schedule.

Abby Road C obliterates track record at Flamboro
August 19 - DUNDAS, ON — After waiting two years for it to happen, all the pieces fell into place for Keith Jones and Abbey Road C at Flamboro Downs on Sunday evening and the duo scored their first Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final victory in track and Ontario Sires Stakes record time.

Zirnis captures two Grassroots in Hanover
August 18 - HANOVER, ON — J Ls Sunny Boy scored the fastest win in five Grassroots divisions at Hanover Raceway on Saturday night, stopping the clock at 2:01.1 with a last minute charge down the stretch.

Royal Waltz posts fastest win in Elmira Grassroots
August 17 - ELMIRA, ON — Three-year-old trotting filly Royal Waltz made an impressive leap up the Grassroots standings at Elmira Raceway on Friday evening, scoring her first Ontario Sires Stakes victory in 2:01.2. The fastest of six Grassroots divisions, the mile forced trainer Budd Thorne to reassess his pre-race comment that the Royal Ballad daughter’s strength was her consistency and not her speed.

Local filly hoping for some luck in Gold Elimination
August 17 - GLOUCESTER, ON — Ontario’s talented two-year-old trotting fillies head to the nation’s capital on Wednesday for the third Gold Series contest of their five-event season.
