HANOVER, ON — Ontario’s talented three-year-old pacing fillies have commandeered Hanover Raceway for their fourth Grassroots event on Saturday night. The half-mile oval will host 12 Grassroots divisions for the lightning fast fillies, with a total purse of $180,000 up for grabs.

All of the top fillies are back in action, including the undefeated duo Warrawee Flare and Shes A Blast, and they will be joined by a number of newcomers to the provincial program. Eva Camevil makes her Ontario Sires Stakes debut from Post 3 in the fourth race and owner Rob Dennie is looking forward to the opportunity to test his newest acquisition against the Grassroots regulars.

“I just bought her in the London sale a couple of weeks ago,” says the Walkerton resident. “But I think she’s got a shot in there. She drew a good position so hopefully she can follow along.”

Dennie, who normally concentrates on trotters, was attracted to Eva Camevil’s bloodlines and offered up $6,200 for her at the Spring Fling Sale on June 13. The filly is a daughter of Camluck and $368,363 winner Armbro Eva and counts horses like $411,651 winner Banker Jack among her siblings.

Dennie turned the filly over to trainer Terry Fritz and in her first start for the pair Eva Camevil logged a runner-up finish in a non-winners of $12,000 contest at Hanover Raceway on June 26.

“I talked to the groom down there and he told us what they had on her,” recalls Dennie. “Terry changed a lot of equipment on her and changed her shoeing a bit. He tried a few different things on her and they seem to be working so far.”

In her next start Eva Camevil did not make a repayment on her purchase price, finishing seventh in a non-winners of $10,000 race at Grand River Raceway, but Dennie was pleased with her performance from Post 7.

“I think she’ll be all right,” he says. “She raced real well last time she raced at Hanover. I’m hoping she gets around just as well or maybe better this week.”

Fritz and Eva Camevil face a tough division which includes the undefeated Shes A Blast from Post 6, and Grassroots division winners Putnam Fantasy from Post 2, Tosexyforthedriver from Post 7 and Josee Rocket from Post 8.

The first division is also top heavy with talent, including undefeated Warrawee Flare from Post 5, two-time Grassroots division winners Pauls Peanut from Post 1 and Sentbytheangels from Post 7 and single division winners Twin B Supreme from Post 3 and Ramblin Rosie from Post 8.

Hanover Raceway fans will want to be in their seats trackside by 7:20 pm on Saturday to catch the first three-year-old pacing filly Grassroots division and the 11 exciting divisions that follow.
